Project Background
A financial institution approached our team for a website redesign. This bank has a robust regional presence through traditional marketing, national capabilities, and global reach. However, their online presence needed an overhaul. Customers complained about usability issues. The design lacked polish and continuity with the rest of their brand collateral. Outdated visuals sent the message that they lacked modern features and security. The content was difficult for the marketing team to update.
Crafting the Look & Feel
With an aggressive timeline in place, our team devised a plan to divide and conquer. While my colleague focused on UX, creating user personas, and retooling the Information Architecture, I focused on the look and feel of the new website.
I dove into their current marketing materials, reviewing internal and external collateral, having discussions with internal designers, and assessing their social media presence.
I identified the key elements of the brand that were missing from its online presence and presented a vision for the new and improved site.
Building & Launching the Design System
We built upon the basic brand elements to create a modern web design system. Our goals were brand continuity, accessibility, and scalability. Using two-week design sprints, we designed over 20 templates in just 3 months. We stayed in close contact with the development team throughout the design process to ensure the final build was realistic and could satisfy the project goals.
To supplement their bank’s photography, we sourced stock. I devised a strategy for the types of imagery we’d need and focused on finding images that were as candid, diverse, and realistic to the region as possible. We also needed to appeal to varying personas—from individuals to small businesses to larger enterprises.
Months of dedication from the project team resulted in a sleek, modern interface optimized for user engagement, advanced tracking, and flexible content management.
At the end of a 10-month timeline, the new site had:
Highly adaptable components, ensuring there were no more blockers for updating content promptly
500+ updated pages leveraging the centralized component library and 20+ dedicated templates
A user-centric header and footer with quick pathways for each audience segment

I was lucky to be on a team with Kristin, and I would be thrilled with the chance to work with her on any project. She has the attention to detail to notice anything out of place and the skill to take a step back and see the larger strategy. Working with her has taught me how to connect experiences, storytelling, and business objectives. I'm impressed with her ability to break down complex situations and think through different solutions.
